We were lucky to have visited the falls at a very icy snowy time in Iceland. I say this as although the Gullfoss falls are normally magnificent at any time, all the ice and snow added to the magical effect of the falling torrents. Great sheets of ice covered the water that flowed beneath and folds of snow covered ice lined the sides of the valley that the water flowed through. I’m not normally moved by such things but tears welled as I beheld the scene, it was truly beautiful – nature at it’s finest..
Even in the warmth of summer Gullfoss must be an amazing place but the cold brings out it’s best.
A highly recommended place to visit on your Icelandic trip.
